Workshare Membership

Each season we invite a select group of people to participate in our Workshare Program.  This is a rare opportunity for hands-on learning about all aspects of certified organic farming in Central Texas. At our farm, you can learn about raising vegetables, flowers, herbs, livestock as well as help at our farm stand and support community events like our annual plant sale, classes and camps. For more information, you can reference our Workshare FAQ here. For the Spring season, we will have 14-16 workshare positions as follows:

Field Workers

  • Agricultural Workshare Members (9) — Shifts available Monday-Saturday, 8-12 or Tuesday, 3-7 at both farms. Bastrop folks join us!
  • Farm Stand Workshare Members (2) — Must be able to work either Tuesday, 3-7 or Saturday, 11-3. Spanish speakers preferred.

OFFICE WORKERS  (4-6 hours each week, flexible schedule)

  • Marketing/Special Events Workshare
  • Grantwriter Workshare
  • Volunteer Organizer Workshare
  • Adminstration Workshare

Interns needed

New Farm Institute at Green Gate Farms is seeking an intern to help with social media and marketing.

The intern will assist with all aspects of social media, customer service, and marketing, including:
-create and maintain photo library of farm/events
-assist with helping with Facebook,Twitter and other online accounts
-create email campaigns to support NFI community programming
-assist in updating NFI website
-write portions of NFI newsletter
-assist with annual fundraiser (“Hootenanny”)
This could become a full-time paid position if grant funding is secured. In the meantime, you can be paid in course credit and a weekly share of certified organic vegetables (and meat as available).
Commitment needed 8-12 hours/week through June 30, 2012.
Skills required:
Writing skills
Good sense of humor
Able to juggle several projects with minimal supervision

We have the world’s most patient bookkeeper: Margaret Rittenhouse. After helping us wade through all the stuff we tend to avoid, she is signing up new clients.

Margaret says, “I am looking for small businesses that need help with their bookkeeping/accounting needs. I can help with initial QuickBooks setup, clean up of data and production of accurate financial statements or ongoing accounting activities. I have 5 years of accounting experience helping small businesses. I also have 4 years of public accounting experience and approximately 9 years experience with tax preparation.
