Unlike themed parks or indoor venues, our farm provides you and your guests with a rare opportunity — to experience an authentic, certified organic working farm in a historic setting just eight miles east of downtown Austin.
Visitors have been enjoying events on our community farm since we opened our doors in 2006. Several years ago, we created New Farm Institute, a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization, to fund our educational outreach efforts. A portion of your farm rental payment is donated to our scholarship fund that enables neighborhood children to participate in our popular weeklong Farm Camps.
Your support is one of the ways that are able to provide the highest quality foods to neighbors of all incomes. Thank you. Regardless of where you choose to have your event, we hope you will select a venue that uses sustainable practices.
Birthday Party FAQ’s
Can we barbecue?
Yes! If you or a caterer would like to prepare food at the farm you must provide us with a liability insurance certificate naming Green Gate Farms as insured.
Where will the party be held?
Our in-town farm (8310 Canoga Ave., Austin, Texas, 78724) is the perfect setting for a casual birthday party. Typically, groups gather in the Children’s Garden, which is a shady garden spot beside the Big Red Barn (built in 1902) with five hand-crafted cedar picnic tables. Guests are also welcome to use the Open Air Pavilion.
An Education Center to showcase rare-bred livestock and sustainable systems is being created on the north side of the farm. This will feature seating and self-guided exploration. Donations to this project are appreciated.
How much does it cost?
$330.00* for up to 15 children (they will be given wristbands); each additional child is $20.00.
Adults, children aged 3 and younger, and the birthday child are FREE.
(*Current Vegetable CSA members receive a discounted rate of $280.00.)
A $100.00 non-refundable deposit is required at the time of booking and your remaining balance will be due prior to arrival.
Who will be there to greet me?
A farmer will be on hand to greet you upon arrival.
What if it rains?
We are an outdoor location and rain on the day of, or even the day before your party, can be a spoiler. If there is bad weather in the forecast, we’ll discuss options — like having the party in the hayloft of the Big Red Barn. (Note: Guests must be able to climb stairs to access the hayloft.)
The amount and timing of rain determines if the farm will be open or closed and if party must be rescheduled. If rescheduling is not an option for you, you will receive a full refund of your $100 deposit.
How long is a party?
Birthday parties are 3 hours long. You may arrive 30 minutes prior to set-up, and you will have 30 minutes after your event to clean-up. (Failure to clean up will result in a $50 fee charged to your credit card.)
What activities can children do during a party?
Children are welcome to:
* play in our treehouses (Magic Treehouse and Fort Porky)
* explore livestock areas and Big Red Barn (with adult supervision)
* relax on the hammock and swings under the oak tree
* play Corn Hole and Fooseball. (Volleyball can be set-up with advance notice.)
*engage in simple farm fun: Three-legged, sack, or egg races on the lawn,
run around open acres
We are also happy to arrange the following activities for an additional fee:
Farmer-led Farm Tour: free for 15 Birthday Guests; $10 for each additional guest
Animal Love: Farmer-led time to learn/play with selected livestock (including chickens/chicks, bunnies, a pony, goats, pigs, etc) $50.
Farmer Talk: Brief presentation and Q&A by professional farmer on a topic of your choice, $30.
When can we have our party?
We host parties every day, year round. (Keep in mind, though, February and December often have unpredictable weather.) Guests are welcome to book their event beginning at 9:00; the latest start time is 3:00.
What about food?
You may bring your own food or have food delivered to serve during your party. Purchasing our meats, vegetables, eggs, honey and flowers is appreciated.
What about decorations?
You are welcome to bring tablecloths, balloons, party favors and eating utensils. To protect our animals and the environment, we encourage you to use sustainable materials and to thoroughly clean up at the end of your party. You can compost your food waste at the farm or feed it to the livestock (please check with farmer first).
Failure to properly clean the area will result in a $50 clean-up fee charged to your credit card at the end of your party. Thank you for your cooperation.
What is included in my party?
You and your guests are welcome to explore all of the farm, including the farm stand, Big Red Barn, vegetable fields, livestock areas, and Children’s Garden, which includes:
Cedar picnic tables (5 tables that are 7′ long, each seats 8)
Wagons/wheelbarrows for un/loading
Tractor for photos*
Free, easy parking for 100+ cars
Guests are welcome to hang a pinata from a tree or have a scavenger hunt all over the farm!
(*Rented hay bales for seating or decoration must be requested in advance and must be set-up/returned to barn by party. $10 fee for each damaged bale. **Tractor is available when not in use.)
Can I come to the farm before the party to see the facility?
Of course! Our farm is open to the public Tuesdays, 3-6; Fridays + Saturdays, 10-2. Be sure to shop at our farm stand while you’re visiting. Typically, we have certified organic vegetables, meats, flowers, honey, cookbooks, tee shirts, totes, and eggs for sale.
