We are seeking an experienced farmer to manage our Austin and Bastrop farms. The ideal person is a passionate, experienced sustainable farmer with at least three years of experience with a record of increasing responsibility. You are eager to learn about what it takes to succeed in Central Texas and can manage the entire process of growing, from seed selection to sales.

As farm manager, you will:

Establish and maintain a professional, fast work pace for others to emulate.

Enjoy interacting with customers, chefs and general public

Be comfortable teaching and managing interns, adult volunteers and workshare members, some of whom have farming aspirations.

Help with tours, school field trips

Duties include but are not limited to:
1. Day-to-day field/CSA operations (65% of time)
2. Sales: Farm stand, wholesale (10% of time)

3. Education and outreach (25% of time)

Because we run a community-based farm, your must have excellent communications skills. And because we are certified organic, you must be detail-oriented, able to maintain online and paper records for certification. Hopefully, you can drive a tractor/BCS, repair equipment, build infrastructure, or be willing to learn. Speaking Spanish is not required but preferred.Salary is based upon experience and may include on-farm housing at our River Farm. One-week paid vacation and up to 3 weeks off between seasons (in July/Aug and Dec/Jan).


Green Gate Farms is seeking part-time seasonal workers to assist with fast-paced tasks that include planting, harvesting, and weeding of vegetables and flowers in field and hoophouses at our Austin and Bastrop farms in all weather. Ideal candidates for this position will be able to lift 50 lbs without help, and work 20 hours per week on Monday, Tuesday and other mornings. (Help may also be needed on occasional Saturday mornings.) A clean driving record is important so you can help with deliveries. Work begins immediately and continues through July. Pay based upon experience; time off in August and December.

FLOWER POWER Workshare Members (Work Trade)

Join Farmer Erin as she prepares for and launches the 2021 Spring/Summer Flower CSA  program (January-June). A select group of workshare members will learn all aspects of certified organic cut flower growing from the co-founder of Green Gate Farms. Topics will include: seed selection, soil health, pest management, resiliency, planting, harvesting, design work and sales. Workers commit to 4-6 hours of work per week for the season. In exchange, you’ll receive a rare opportunity to develop skills, free attendance at GGF flower workshops, mentorship, flower bouquets and plants for your garden (as available). Work can be done at both farms.

Morning shifts (8-12) available:

City Farm, east Austin (8310 Canoga Ave, Austin 78724): Wednesdays and Saturdays

River Farm, west Bastrop (156 Howard Lane, Bastrop, 78602): Tuesdays and Thursdays

Green Gate Farms, an award-winning, certified organic family farm begun in 2006 by Skip Connett and Erin Flynn, is a 33-acre operation with two farming locations. Our “Urban Farm” location (8310 Canoga Ave., Austin, 78724) is currently approximately two acres, on a historic farmstead eight miles east of downtown Austin. Our “River Farm” is a 33-acre tract 25 minutes east of downtown Austin (and eight miles west of Bastrop) along the Colorado River (156 Howard Lane, Bastrop, TX, 78602). We sell certified organic vegetables, herbs, and flowers via our 100-member vegetable and flower CSAs, our REKO Ring on Facebook, wholesale orders, and at our farm stand on Saturday mornings beside the Big Red Barn (8310 Canoga Ave., Austin 78724)
