Green Gate Farms’ is celebrating its recent move to Bastrop County by offering special summer discounts to it neighbors: $150 off its weekly Farm Camp and $50 off its Vegetable CSA membership program.
“We’ve received such a warm welcomethat we wanted to thank Bastrop County families by giving discounts on what ourfarm does best --- Farm Camp for kids and weekly shares of organic vegetables,”says farm co-founder Skip Connett.
Green Gate Farms’ vegetable CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) program has been providing weekly (or biweekly) shares of 8-10 different vegetables and herbs at pick up locations in Austin, Bastrop, Smithville and other areas since 2006.
More than 14 sites, which include My Yoga Barn in Cedar Creek and Bastrop 1832 Farmers Market, are administered by volunteers, called Community Organizers, who distribute food. Recipes, guidance and fun farm events are provided to help members savor the joy of eating seasonally. This week’s share includes: newly dug blue potatoes, arugula, cucumbers, potatoes, beets, cabbage, kale, carrots, thyme and a variety of tomatoes.
The farm’s award-winning weeklong camp is for children ages 5-15; more than 1,000 children have attended since it began in 2009. This year’s summer camp will be held at the “River Farm” (near the Utley Bridge, eight miles west of Bastrop) during the last two weeks of June, from 9-4, with pre/post care available. Campers will help farmers care for livestock, harvest food, cook, eat, swim, play games, learn to build, make camp and more.
Green Gate also has a limitednumber of Farm Camp scholarships available this summer. Please contact the farmfor more information at firstname.lastname@example.org.
