NOTES FROM THE FIELD
with Farmer Evan
Spring is in full swing, it seems, as the fields continue to fill up and folks flock to the farm to check out all the happenings at Green Gate. We’ve heard more delightful exclamations from students and kiddos out at the farm this season, with all the adorable baby piglets running amok.
On the subject of animals, we’ve also introduced rabbits to the city farm – feel free to check them out if you come to the farm. According to our cute-ometers, their cuteness factor is off the charts. We are giving them a trial run at the moment to see how they work into the farm’s flow. If all goes well, we’ll be neck deep in rabbits. Feel free to check out our Meat CSA.
We hope you enjoyed the edible flowers in the share last week – they were a surprise to us! I noticed all the arugula at the River Farm had shot up it’s pretty flower, and remembered selling them to restaurants in the past; they love to use them as fancy garnishes on side plates, or on top of salads.
More edible flowers to come this week. We’ll also be introducing spinach this week, and a fresh round of head lettuce. Napa cabbage is on the way, as well as a new round of various types of kale.
As always, thank you for supporting local agriculture and local business. You CSA membership is the backbone of our operation, and we couldn’t be successful without you!
