September Farm Events Schedule


Austin, TX, August 30, 2012 – Green Gate Farms welcomes the community to its historic, certified organic farm for its eighth year of farming and educational events. Activities below are in addition to our weekly farm tour (every Saturday at noon) and Free Fridays at the Farm (10-2), a morning outing for parents who want to introduce their children to sustainable agriculture. Here’s what’s happening in September:


September 1, Saturday, Crop Mob: Olives. Help with the harvest at neighbor farm and learn how olive oil is made. Farmers 10 and older welcome. 8am-on.

Workshare/Volunteer/Intern Orientation: Interested in swapping food for work? Come learn how to participate in our workshare program, 12-1.


September 9, Sunday: Join us for Opening day at Mueller Farmer’s Market, 10-2. Sign up for CSA, buy fresh food/flowers, pet Mesquite, our newest piglet.


September 18, Tuesday: First shares of 14-week Vegetable/Flower/Egg CSAs begin. Sign up today and keep our doors open. Long-term and discounted shares (even free shares!) available.


September 22, Saturday: Farm Stand reopens for Fall season. Celebrate with by attending our Smoothie Party (see below). New hours: Tuesday, 3-6; Friday 10-2; Saturday 10-2. Accept WIC/SNAP/Double Dollars


September 29, Saturday: Permaculture Design Course begins, meets in hayloft of Big Red Barn.



Smoothie Party! Saturday, 22, 11:00-12:30 Learn the art of smoothie making in this interactive workshop  that goes far beyond fruit.  Discover how a blender, superfoods & fresh fruits and veggies can take your health to the next level. Kids will love to “eat” their veggies when blended into colorful and tasty drinks, soups and puddings!  You’ll try several recipes and take home tips and tricks for making your own delicious smoothies at home.  All materials supplied.  All ages welcome. Young children accompanied by an adult. Price: $20 per adult/child pair. (Additional attendees $5)  

Workshops led by Certified Holistic Health Coach, Robin Arutt, M.Ed, CHHC. Robin is a wellness professional, educator, and owner of Full Potential Living (  She received her certification in Holistic Health Coaching from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition in New York; certification in Clinical Herbalism from the Rocky Mountain Center for Botanical Studies (formerly in Colorado); and Certification in Living Foods Lifestyle from Ann Wigmore Natural Health Institute in Puerto Rico.
