Founders

Skip Connett’s boyhood was spent on a magnificent farm in Pennsylvania that got its start in the 1700s. His career has spanned journalism, public health and farming. Most recently, he was a member of the TOFGA Advisory Board and TDA Organic Industry Advisory Board.

Though Erin Flynn’s family has farmed and ranched in Texas for six generations, she is the first to create a certified organic farm here. In addition to farming pigs and petals, she is a writer/publicist. Flynn is active with Slow Food Austin’s Board of Directors and was recently appointed to Austin’s Sustainable Food Policy Board.

Staff

Our spring season is off to a great start. We have a wonderful team, all of whom coincidentally began as volunteers on the farm:

  • Farm Administrator Kestrel While performing no actual farming, Kestrel is responsible for the surprising amount of technology supporting the farm, including web presence, CSA member database, and creating tech solutions to put out fires.
  • Farmer Evan A recent transplant from the Pacific Northwest, Evan has been working on farms for the past 3 years. He was owner of Sasquatch Acre in Portland, OR, where he grew many kinds of fruits and vegetables and maintained a ragtag flock of laying hens.
  • Farmer Jamie Jamie began volunteering at the farm in 2008, and she has been a work share member for three seasons. Prior to coming on board, she taught English in Japan and Mexico, and most recently worked for the Austin Housing Authority. She loves the taste of fresh-picked okra, the smell of cut kale, and the community focus at Green Gate Farms.
