Green Gate Farms’ Sponsored Share Program is an innovative, easy way to invest in your community’s health. Sponsored Shares, purchased by individuals and businesses, provide our organic vegetables to children battling diet-related disease and families in need.
Past Sponsored Share recipients include children participating in the “Healthy Families Initiative” at University of Texas Elementary School (thanks Coach K for providing the video below!) and children participating in the “Healthy Living, Happy Living” program at Texas Center for the Prevention and Treatment of Childhood Obesity at Dell Children’s Medical Center. These programs are structured, measurable interventions designed to cause lasting change through good, clean, fair food.
In addition to receiving a share of vegetables throughout the season, children and their families learned about nutrition as well as how to cook using freshly harvested vegetables.
Sponsored Shares are also about compassion and generosity. For instance, Atlanta health writer Amy Stone sponsored a share for an Austin family, one she has never met. Her gift provided a hard-working, creative family that adopted children with special needs healthy food that was desired and appreciated. Amy’s gift had a direct and lasting impact.
Our thanks to fashion designer and philanthropist, Nere Emiko for taking the lead on this community initiative. Here is more about Nere Emiko, the visionary local fashion designer who is helping feed her community.
